I was born in West Plains, Missouri, but I grew up in the heart of the Midwest—primarily in Missouri and Indiana—and I’ll always consider myself a proud Midwesterner, more specifically, a Hoosier. Yes, that’s right. I’m from the great state of Indiana, where basketball and cornfields reign supreme. My childhood was filled with whiffle ball games and the joy of getting lost in a good book.
School was never my favorite, though I always had a deep love for reading. The twist? I just wasn’t interested in the books my teachers assigned. When I wasn’t outside playing sports with neighborhood kids, you could usually find me curled up on the couch with a book—most likely Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl, or something equally whimsical.
I eventually made my way to Indiana University, where I played baseball and explored my passion for writing. My two favorite classes were ornithology (studying birds) and creative writing. It was these two interests that eventually came together to inspire me to write my book SOAR!
Now, I live in Los Angeles with my family, where I spend my days teaching and writing. When I’m not immersed in storytelling, I enjoy cycling, watching sports and movies, reading, and, most of all, spending time with my family. These things keep me energized and make me feel like I want to live forever. I hope you enjoy my books, and happy reading!
